Job Description

Job Scope :

Supervises activities within the Department and related activities in other patient care departments. Reports to and advises the Laboratory HOD on matters relating to the operation of the Department. Applies the newest scientifically-approved approaches for the delivery of patient care.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Co-ordinates the overall activities of the laboratory supervisor, quality officer, safety officer, technologists, assistant technologists, phlebotomists, receptionists, data entry clerks and laboratory messenger.  Supervises  the  activities  of medical  staff  within  the  department  for  ensuring  that  administrative  and professional standards of medical practice are maintained.
  • Answers to all queries from the general administration, medical administration, medical and non-medical staff.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, whether those established by Ministry of Health, medical policies and procedures and to highest professional standards of practice.
  • Assesses and reports to the laboratory Head of Department the need for, and participates in the development and implementation of, new policies and procedures, following their approval by the quality department, that guide and support the provision of high quality of professional care.
  • Takes responsibilities connected with laboratory testing protocols and quality practices ensuring patient's safety and satisfaction as the absolute goal.
  • Participates in selection of technologies based on best practice and validation of newly introduced methods based on objective performance characteristics.
  • Participates in continuous personnel development of Laboratory staff.
  • Participates in revision, update and enrichment of the different advisory services provided by the laboratory to its different clients, as the choice of examination, use of services, and interpretation of results.
  • Participates actively in related hospital committees.
  • Co-ordinates with the hospital infection committee task force helping them in surveillance protocols, strategic decisions and regular operations
  • Supervises the compliance with the policies and standard operating procedures related to the transfusion activities.
  • Actively participates in the organization’s activities designed to attain accreditation by the Accreditation Canada and / or other appropriate accreditation agencies, and directs all department members to do the same
  • Participates in the orientation of new physicians to the hospital and its   administrative   and   professional   requirements   as   well   as   to   the organizational culture.

Job Requirements :

Education and Experience

  • MBBS and Master Degree in Histopathology.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience post  Master Degree in relevant specialty
